Three siblings, Carlos [Michael Saucedo], Renaldo [Michael Bell] and Lisa [Jennifer Fajardo], discover a Rubik's Cube puzzle on a road that had previously fallen off a magician's stagecoach. When its colors were aligned, it would spout a face and two feet, and talk with a helium-sounding voice, naturally named Rubik [Ron Palillo]. In addition, its magical powers allowed the children (or any nearby objects) to float. The bulk of this series spanned mystery-solving adventures, or escapes from the angry magician who had lost Rubik.

This series concluded each show with a musical performance by the group "Menudo," of which Ricky Martin was a member. It had one holiday special on November 18, 1983 entitled "Rubik's First Christmas." Although geared directly towards younger children, the series was undoubtedly a marketing venue to sell the hugely popular Rubik's Cube puzzle toy, which re-gained its popularity in 1980.

The cartoon seriespaired up with episodes of "Pac-Man" in "The Pac-Man/Rubik the Amazing Cube Hour" featuring re-runs of Pac-Man with new episodes of Rubik.
