A select variety of two-in-one animals composed the characters from this short-lived Disney series. Among them were Bumblelion [Brian Cummings] - half lion, half bumblebee, Butterbear - half butterfly, half bear, Hoppopotamus [Jo Anne Worley] - half rabbit, half hippo, Eleroo [Henry Gibson] - half elephant, half kangaroo, Rhinokey [Alan Oppenheimer] - half rhino, half monkey, Moosel [Bill Scott] - half Moose, half seal, and Tycoon [Bill Scott] - half tiger, half raccoon: all residing on the island of Wuz. In fact, almost every other living thing on the island are hybrids as well.

Villains included Crocosaurus [Alan Oppenheimer] - half crocodile, half dinosaur, with followers Brat [Bill Scott] - half frog, half dragon, and Flizzard [Brian Cummings] - half frog, half lizard.

Former Disney head Michael Eisner conceptualized the idea for this show, in lieu of the new Disney animation studio.
Hasbro, in conjunction with Disney, released a plush toyline of the Wuzzle figures in 1984.
  • "The Wuzzles" theme song was written by Stephen Geyer, who also achieved Billboard 100 status for writing "Believe it or Not," the theme song of "Greatest American Hero," in 1981.
