Care Bears was a weekday morning cartoon for young children that dealt with the animated versions of a popular stuffed animal toyline. The entire series spanned the work of two seperate studios: DiC Entertainment: from 1985-1986, and Nelvana: from 1986-1988.

From a land called Care-A-Lot in the Kingdom of Caring, the Care Bears, rainbow colored teddy bears with unique symbols on their stomach that could project a powerful image in times of need. Keeping watch with the "Care-O-Meter," the bears could tell if a child on Earth was sad or depressed, and ride down on their Cloudmobiles to cheer them up. They were hunted by villains such as Professor Coldheart, whose touch could encase anything in ice, and the ghastly looking faceless wizard No Heart: along with pet Beastly, and neice Shrieky.

The show was later run under the title "Care Bears Family," which mixed airings of old and new episodes, and "Care Bears Cousins," which introduced a new group of animal characters; including Brave Heart Lion, Swift Heart Rabbit, Loyal Heart Dog, Gentle Heart Lamb, Proud Heart Cat, Treat Heart Pig, Playful Heart Monkey, Cozy Heart Penguin, Noble Heart Horse and Bright Heart Raccoon.

The television series also spun off various movies, including "The Care Bears Movie" in 1985, "Care Bears II: A New Generation" in 1986, and "The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland" in 1987.

Various DVD releases of the "Care Bears" are available from Lions Gate Studios.

I want to be a Care Bear, oh It will be so great when I'm a Care Bear
Oh, I can hardly wait to be a Care Bear, and do the things that Care Bears do
Oh, I wanna be a Care Bear like you! (You do?)

I'll be like Funshine and make the sun shine
And have heart like Love-a-Lot
I'll be like Wish Bear and always be there
We'll be the luckiest bears in Care-a-Lot!
I wanna be a Care Bear...and fill the world with love
To be a Care Bear...is what I'm dreaming of
We'll make a great pair...we'll stick together through and through like glue
I don't want to be a cook or a fireman
and I don't wanna play trombone in the marching band
I just wanna be a care Bear like you
I just wanna be a Care Bear
Care Bears originated from Hallmark greeting card concepts created by American Greetings in 1981, and painted by artist Elena Kucharik. The characters were then implemented into stuffed toys by Kenner in 1983.
