Dennis the Menace was an early weekday afternoon cartoon re-hashing
the characters of the 1959 television show and comics of the same
name.
Each
episode started off with a blaring saxophone intro and featured
the sometimes wreckless child Dennis Mitchell [Brennan Thicke] and
his own adventures and exploits around town with his shaggy pet
dog Ruff [voiced by Phil Hartman]. The late Phil Hartman of SNL
fame also voiced George Wilson, Dennis' elderly next door neighbor
who had a short fuse but genuinely a kind heart. His patient wife,
Martha Wilson [Marilyn Lightstone] always seemed to overlook Dennis'
mischevious nature, no matter how many times he broke her fence
or trampled her flowers. Other characters on the show included nerdy
looking Margaret [Jeannie Elias] who constantly attempted to boss
Dennis around, and Dennis' mild mannered parents, Henry [Phil Hartman]
and Alice [Marilyn Lightstone]. The series also introduced new characters
such as Dennis' friends Joey and Peebee.
MGM
released various episodes of the animated "Dennis the Menace"
series on DVD in 2003.
