Droids: The Adventures of C3PO and R2D2

Print    Email

Airtime Dates: September 7, 1985 - June 7, 1986
Director(s): Raymond Jafelice, Clive Smith, Ken Stephenson
Producer(s): Lucasfilm Ltd., Nelvana Limited
Distributor(s): ABC
Station(s): ABC
Episodes: 15

Following the exploits of the two famous droids from the Star Wars movies, this animated series takes place before Episode IV: A New Hope, and detailed the adventures of the two as they were passed on from different masters. Between freeing the helpless, fleeing bounty hunters (including assassin droid IG-88), pirates, escaping AWOL droids and surviving tight situations with diplomacy, the series never featured any other Star Wars characters except for Boba Fett, making a cameo in episode #14, "The Great Heep," which was shown as a two-part television special on the night of June 7, 1986.

As in the movies, C3PO was voiced by Anthony Daniels. Additionally, all of the classic droid and blaster sounds were present. This short series lasted only one season.

The series appeared alongside episodes of "Ewoks" in 1986 as "The Droids and Ewoks Adventure Hour."

20th Century Fox released various episodes of "Droids" on DVD in 2004.

Stepping softly, in a danger zone...
No weapons in my hand...
It’s just this brain, designed by man...
It’s got me in, trouble again...
trouble again.

I put my life, in jeopardy
in the service of my friends
I wouldn’t care, but it’s a dangerous affair
I’m in trouble again...trouble again
In trouble, in trouble, in trouble

"Droids: The Adventures of C3PO and R2D2" was based directly on the characters of the same names, appearing in all 6 Star Wars movies. It was the second animated version of any Star Wars character, next to a segment of "The Star Wars Holiday Special," which aired on November 17, 1978.
