Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids was an animated Saturday morning series
that spun off as "The Adventures of Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids"
in 1984 as a series of repeats. The original series continued on,
into 1982 in its 47th episode.
Each
episode began with song "Gonna Have A Good Time" sung
by Fat Albert [Bill Cosby] and his junkyard band, in amusing transitions
that crossed between live action and animation. Each episode was
narrated by Bill Cosby himself, who also did the voices of most
of the main characters. Each episode served its purpose purely as
a lesson for kids, whether it be to teach them right from wrong,
handling hard times, or valuing friendships no matter what the barrier
is. Set in the 1970s of a Philadelphia neighborhood, the show had
urban appeal and several episodes reflected the tough life of being
in an opressed area.
The
Cosby Kids, or Fat Albert's group of friends, were Russell [Jan
Crawford], Mushmouth [Bill Cosby], Bill [Bill Cosby], Weird Harold
[Gerald Edwards], Bucky [Jan Crawford], and Dumb Donald [Lou Scheimer].
