Teenage hero Link [Jonathan Potts] is the central figure in this series, based entirely on the NES game of the same name. Upon arrival to Castle Hyrule, the cocky and overly sarcastic Link meets attractive Princess Zelda [Cyndy Preston] and is assigned as the protector of the Triforce of Wisdom [voiced by Elizabeth Hanna]. Enemy pig-like wizard Ganon [Len Carlson], ruler of the Underworld, relentlessly seeks to steal the Triforce to accompany the one he already has in possession: the Triforce of Power [voiced by Allan Stewart Coates], to achieve ultimate power and dominate the kingdom of Hyrule.

Link, along with his magical beam-firing sword, his pixie companion Spryte [Paulina Gillis] and Pricess Zelda, travel across the countryside vanquishing enemies and stopping Ganon's Moblin and Skeleton hoarde. The pair, although displaying a conflict of interest, seem to always show an unmistakeable attraction; especially as Link constantly demands a kiss for his deeds, facing constant rejection from Zelda - which sometimes appears to be a bashful one.

"Legend of Zelda" was a special Friday cartoon episode aired during "The Super Mario Brothers Super Show!" with the Zelda segment's initial appearance on September 8, 1989, replacing the usual aired episode of "Super Mario Brothers," another animated series that appeared during the weekday. Both characters Link and Zelda were featured in crossover episodes of "Captain N: The Game Master."

Shout Factory released the complete DVD series of "Legend of Zelda" in 2005.
