An acronym for "Mobile Armored Strike Kommand," this expansive series revolved around millionaire Matt Trakker [Doug Stone], investigator of his wife's untimely death, and pioneer of an elite special force of working adults known as M.A.S.K., composed of his friends Alex Sector [Brendan McKane] - zoologist, Bruce Sato [Doug Stone] - mechanical engineer, Dusty Hayes [Doug Stone] - stuntman, Hondo MacLean [Doug Stone] - weapon specialist, "Ace" Riker [Mark Halloran] - pilot, Gloria Baker [Sharon Noble] racecar driver, Buddy "Clutch" Hawkes [Mark Halloran] - undercover operations, Boris "The Czar" Bushkin [Doug Stone] - an enemy turned friend, Calhoun Burns [Graeme McKenna] - construction and demolitions, Julio Lopez [Graeme McKenna] - doctor, Ali Bombay [Brian George] and Nevada "Chief" Rushmore [Brendan McKane]. Additionally, Matt's adopted son, Scott [Brennan Thicke] was a regular on the show, with his personally-built robot companion and scooter T-Bob [voiced by Graeme McKenna].

M.A.S.K fought enemy boss Miles Mayhem [Brendan McKane] and his crime syndicate organization V.E.N.O.M. [the Vicious Evil Network of Maymem]: Maximus Mayhem [Doug Stone] - Miles' twin brother, Bruno "Mad Dog" Shepard [Doug Stone] - henchman, Cliff Dagger [Mark Halloran] - demolitions, the sinister "Sly" Rax [Mark Holloran], Nash "Goon" Gorey [Doug Stone], biker Floyd "Birdman" Malloy [Brendan McKane], Vanessa Warfield [Sharon Noble] - spy, and Lester "The Lizard" Sludge [Brian George].

All characters from both M.A.S.K. and V.E.N.O.M. were uniquely fitted with high-tech masks that enabled them each one special ability - such as enhanced vision, creation of holograms, invisibility, laser weaponry, and other defensive/offensive actions.

A complete and massive toy series, encompassing all characters and vehicles as seen in the animated series, was released by Kenner in 1985. Each character's toy came with a mini-comic book, similar to that of the "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" toy line.

A comic book series for M.A.S.K. was released by DC Comics in 1986, totalling 15 issues and ending in 1987. This series altered the storyline in certain areas, such as a plot annex where V.E.N.O.M. leader Miles Mayhem kills Matt Trakker's brother, Andy.
