The introduction of the Popple characters came from a Shelly Duval
television special in 1985 entitled "It's Popple Time." The Popples
were colorful characters who lived in an attic at children Billy
[Jackie Berger] and Bonnie's [Valri Bromfield] house. Able to curl
into a ball (creating a "popping" sound), or even materialize almost
any item out of their pouches, the Popples hid when the childrens'
parents were around, and broke loose soon afterwards. They always
mimed all of their conversations to the children.
The
Popples were: Party [Louise Vallance], Prize [Louise Vallance],
P.C. [Hadley Kay], Potato Chip [Donna Christie], Pancake [Sharon
Noble], Punkster [Danny Mann], Putter [Len Carlson], and Puffball
[Louise Vallance].
The
animation style of the Popples was rather poor, noting many instances
of looped frames. The cartoon series later became a segment of "Kideo
TV" in 1987, along with Ulysses 31 and Rainbow Brite. |
